The news comes after it emerged that ISIS fighters had destroyed one of the world's most revered ancient ruins - the temple of Baalshamin.

ISIS took control of Palmyra - where the temple is located - in May, sparking fears for a site considered one of the ancient world’s most important cultural centres.
The city of Palmyra is a Unesco World Heritage site and is famed for its well-preserved Greek and Roman ruins.
